Incense
for Exu
This hand-compounded incense is crafted from ingredients typical
for honoring Exu in incense: myrrh (which for us resonates quite a bit,
since it is usually connected to dark spirits in European magical
practice), cloves (sweetening but warm), black pepper, cinnamon, a
little chocolate, and more. It's a good idea to add some red flowers
and perhaps a bit of cachaca, a high proof liquor made from sugar cane
juice popular in Brazil and often used in Kimbanda rituals. Exu is a
powerful crossroads spirit, teacher and trickster, not to be approached
lightly. His day is Friday, his colors red and black.
Incense for Exu is ritually handcrafted using natural botanical ingredients. It does not contain dyes, chemical extenders, fragrance oils, accelerants, fillers, or synthetic materials of any kind.
However, this type of incense does require a source of heat, like a charcoal tablet, to release its scent. Click here for tips about working with loose incense.
