BridgeIncense for the Beloved Dead

This incense was created as a special request for a practitioner who wanted an incense to go with our Beloved Dead Oil. It is based on myrrh, opoponax, and our own vegetal ambergris. Myrrh and opoponax (sweet myrrh) have long been used for cleansing the bodies of the dead and for working with the Underworld. Scent, as understood in the Egyptian Book of the Dead, was a potent tool for restoring life, with ritual incense used as a vehicle to ensure the deceased's triumph over death. Alongside the myrrh and opoponax, this blend has a very leafy scent which aids in evoking the living green realms of death and resurrection and the garden of memory. Use this incense to honor the dead--offering the smoke and fragrance to guide them to safety--and also to welcome them home to be remembered and celebrated during occasions like the Day of the Dead, Obon, or a death anniversary. If you cannot burn incense in your ritual space, use a candle warmer to release the aroma, or leave some in a bowl as a fragrant offering for those who came and went before.

Incense for the Beloved Dead is ritually handcrafted using natural botanical ingredients. It does not contain dyes, chemical extenders, fragrance oils, accelerants, fillers, or synthetic materials of any kind. However, this type of incense does require a source of heat, like a charcoal tablet, to release its scent. Click here for tips about working with loose incense.
