Spruce Essential Oil (Eastern Hemlock) This clean, fresh, woodsy scent is calming, so consider it in magick oils for meditation or trance, especially when connected with Sun magick. In several cultures (Russian, some Native American), this tree represents the Sun, yet in its youth, it can flourish in deep shade that would kill other trees, so try this scent for aid in illuminating darkness (exploring the occult). This plant also will not germinate in old hemlock needles - it needs its own space, preferably on top of the rotting log of another tree. Thus, this scent could be very useful in magick oils dedicated to exploring the new and moving away from the established. Some people consider the eastern hemlock to be lunar in comparison to the solar western hemlock, so this natural fragrance might be interesting in lunar work. It has nothing to do with poison hemlock. Steam-distilled from Tsuga canadensis. Although Tsuga canadensis essential oil is often identified as "blue spruce" in that marketplace, the botanical name for blue spruce is actually Picea pungens, not Tsuga canadensis. Top Combining With Other Essential Oils Spruce combines well with the natural perfumes of benzoin, cedarwood, galbanum, lavender, oakmoss, patchouli, pine, rosemary, and vetiver. Top |
