Witchwood
Oil
Elder has a long association
with witchcraft; the wood was made into wands and ritual musical
instruments, leaves were hung around the house to repel spells, and
sometimes people even wore the flowers on holidays to signify
one's knowledge of the Craft, so elder has a nice double-edged meaning
as both a component in ritual work and a repellent of spells. You can
use this oil both ways as well--to potentiate spellwork by anointing
your tools, candles, or self, or as a protection oil.
This oil starts with a masceration of elderflower, elderberries, and elder seeds. The scent of
elder flowers, which comes from a wonderful elderflower extract, is then brightened with bergamot and deepened with clove,
sweet fennel, and more. Elder's woodland home is signified with violet
leaf and oakmoss. As would be expected from a plant with such a rich history and so many healing properties, there is lots of depth here. Use it for potentiating
spellwork and protection from the same.
