Not Your Mother's Van Van Oil
This old Hoodoo stand-by has become
popular in other paths, like Wicca. However, unlike many formulations with bits of herbs in the oil, our Alchemy Works recipe uses organic essential oils
in a fractionated coconut oil base. It's not manufactured in New Orleans or put together from an old Southern recipe; it's made right here by us in New England using
Alchemy Works' own formulation. Still just as multi-purpose as ever and just as refreshing, Not Your Mother's Van Van Oil is composed of lemongrass, citronella,
palmarosa, gingergrass, vetiver, and lemon vervain (AKA lemon verbena), which lends the oil its name. (Over time in the Creole dialect of New Orleans, the pronunciation of the French word verveine shifted to van-van.) Citrusy smells tend to be excellent for banishing nasties and for creating a positive atmosphere. It's also worth noting that many of the grasses in Van Van oils are natural insect repellents, thus warding off the evils of vector-borne disease. Not Your Mother's Van Van Oil, which doesn't smell like bug-spray, is good for general banishing, purification, anointing, feeding
charms and amulets, dressing candles for luck, and meditation.
