Oil
for Hermes
Unlike our Hermes' Favor
oil, which is really a luck oil, this blend is a devotional oil
for Hermes. Harold, founder of Alchemy Works, considers Hermes to be one of his most loved
deities and took great care in creating this offering. (Notably, Anthony and Aleia also have a close connection with Hermes.) Saffron was the herb of choice for honoring Hermes in ancient
Greece, perhaps because it grows in meadows where the herds he also
watched over grazed. But the story is that the saffron crocus
grew from the drops of blood of Krokos, a mortal young man whom Hermes
loved and whom he accidentally killed while playing discus. Finding
herbs that go with saffron and that would fit this deity was not easy.
Harold chose fruity but hot pink pepper, warming turmeric, spicy ginger,
cardamom, allspice, and more. The result is a rich and pleasantly warm
oil that honors Hermes and that can be made part of rituals asking him
to guide the souls of the dead. It can also be used to honor a lost
beloved.
