Hades woodcutHades the Unseen
This oil combines the two scents traditionally associated with Hades, god of the Underworld—cypress and narcissus. We created a narcissus bouquet from various floral and herbal essential oils, including kewda (a flower oil traditionally associated with the dead), jasmine, ylang ylang, and other natural oils, which combine into the almost narcotic fragrance of this small, innocent-looking spring flower. The cypress is given body by the addition of camphor wood, juniper berry, and olibanum. These two groups of scents combine surprisingly well, the clean, woody, penetrating cypress contrasting nicely with the sweet but scrunchy narcissus bouquet.

This magic oil is excellent for honoring The Unseen. Hades not only rules over the Underworld but is the god of necromancy and is propitiated together with Persephone by those who would consult with the dead. Ancient Greek necromancers often dug a grave-shaped pit into which libations were poured when calling upon these two rulers of the Underworld. People threw themselves down on the ground and hit it with their palms to request Hades' help in avenging crimes against parents, whether it be murder or grave dishonor (some say the Furies were Hades' children; they were concerned with offenses against kinship ties). This god is also the master of "black-winged Oneiroi" (dreams, especially those sent by the dead). Consider this oil for honoring Hades, for necromancy, for grave curses, and for dreamwork of the darker sort. Top
