Kyphi Oil
The 2200-year-old recipe for kyphi taken from the walls of the
Temple of Horus at Edfu is the basis for this unique oil. Mastic, amber, sweet flag, aspalathos, camel grass, mint, and cinammon
are added one at a time to form the base, which is moistened with oasis wine and steeped overnight
in a copper bowl. Separately, raisins are soaked
in oasis wine, ground, and mixed with the base to
steep for another five days. The excess wine is gently boiled off. Frankincense and honey are mixed, boiled,
combined with the base, and the whole left to rest overnight. Finally
myrrh is ground and added, and the kyphi gently dried, which takes several
days. This elaborate incense is then crumbled and mixed with pure olive oil, in
which it macerates for at least month, imparting its wonderful fragrance and
spiritual properties to the oil.
This oil would be a nice aid in trance work. Edfu
kyphi is the most sound-centered of the kyphis I have made, so it could
be especially helpful if you are using sound in any magickal or spiritual way. This
subtle oil releases its scent when it is applied, not in the bottle. Top
